Jefferson County OHCAs lot of you have heard the State wants our county to take over the park or they will give it to Div. of Wildlife. If the Div. of Wildlife takes over the park it probably will not be a park, just a wildlife area. This would mean that the trails and beach would not be there long. We have been, with the help of the State OHC, talking to the Park System and the County Commissioners about what’s going on and we are still waiting for final word as to what is going to happen.
The Parks and the county have given us permission to work on trails and open up the Horse Camp for camping. It is opened to horsemen to camp in the Horse Camp, but there is still no regular camping in the park. When and if the County takes the park, OHC will run the Horse Camp and maintain it and all the trails. But please remember the trails are multi use, non-motorized so you still might come across hikers and bikers.
This is a crucial time at the park, so the more riders and campers we have, the more the county will see that it is used. Anyone who has rode here, knows this park is way too nice to let it be taken from us.

The Horse Camp is open
All the trails are all open. Just pick up an envelope up front of camp to pay for camping it is $17 a night with some exceptions there is a flyer posted at the bulletin board.

We are a very small club and need lots of help maintaining the camp and trails. In years past we had the help of park employees to help maintain the trails, but this is no longer the case, so any time you see something down, try to remove it if possible or contact us about it. Also, when camping try to remove your own trash, as pick up is limited.
Ron and his crew have been working very hard and have gotten all of the trails opened. Ron, with the help from other OHC members, have opened up all the trails, but remember every wind brings down new obstacles.
A few of the Carrolton OHC members came down a week or so ago and tried to haul slag down Trillium to a new culvert that was put in, but the mud slowed work a good bit. Hopefully they will bring their Gator back and try again.
